TGIF: the men's edition

Hello, long lost loves!   We meet again on this unseasonable Friday to talk about, and if you know me at all this should be no surprise to you: BOYS!  Well...men.  Ok, what I mean is men's haircuts.  There's been oodles of gorgeous men's trends on the Spring 2012 runway, both for the dapper and the disinterested.  Luckily for the ladies, all the mantrends we'll be discussing compliment the easy-retro look that is so influential right now in fashion and hair.  If you have a man in your life, be it a friend, coworker, or loved one, bring him over to this computer screen and have him start reading now!

DUDE DISCLAIMER:  Man up, do not be frightened by new do's, change is good, and open minds are attractive.

As previously stated, we've seen an abundance of retro influence in both hair and fashion recently.  And when I say retro, I'm talking all over the board:  Elvis, the 1930's (thanks to the hit tv series Boardwalk Empire), and the 1950/1960's (thanks to MadMen).  There's also a real nu-wave vibe I've been catching, and I like it.  I like boys.

The Pomp/Quiff:  Length on top, with or without volume, and shorter smooth sides.  Low maintenance, easy to style.  Use classic pomade on sides and through the front.  Borrow your girlfriends blow drier to look like Morrissey.

A couple fine quiff's: the Kings, Elvis and Morrissey.

Curly quiff!

Dolce & Gabbana Spring '12 quiff.

The Undercut:  Tight cropped sides, disconnected from length on top.  Worn slicked and smoothed, good for straight to wavy hair.  Use gel with water or a classic pomade to keep it real vintage.

My newest crush, Michael Pitt from Boardwalk Empire.

Michael Pitt and Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire.

Michael Pitt, Boardwalk Empire.

Sweet fade in GQ street style.

Are we seeing a trend here?  So fresh and so clean, men!  Even with length, neatness is key.

Spring '12 runway look, smooth length.

Guys, these are just some ideas to get you thinking out of the usual #2 all over.  Thou shalt not be scared of style or change.  Thou shalt take thirty seconds to rub some pomade in thine hair (or get a lady friend to do it for you!).  MEN, you deserve awesome hair!  So come and get it!

Have a great weekend, faithful ferricchia-ites!

TGIF: the weekend preview!

OOF!  Talk about some snow, eh, ferricchia-ites?  I know it may be silly to think about spring trends when we just got DUMPED on.  But yes, before the parking ban has even been put into effect, I'm going to show you whats hot now and what will be influencing the upcoming hair trends!  There's something for everyone here, just try to keep an open mind, dolls.

Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe.

Bombshells, the vintage look is EVERYWHERE lately.  With period films like My Week with Marilyn, featuring the stunning Michelle Williams, we're seeing a rise both in root volume, rolls, and movie star glamour!  Victory rolls, people.  They're back, and they're not too difficult to achieve!  Play with hot rollers, 1inch barrel curling irons, and pin curls.  Stay tuned for a tutorial on how to victoriously roll and wrap your way to starlet status.

So Hollywood's got their poster child in Ms. Williams, but liberty curls have been spotted on Spring/summer 2012 runways as well.  Keep the look smooth and polished for the most put together result.  Gently deconstruct for a softer, slightly avant-gardish, romantic look.

Just a little retro-vibing fringe rollup!

Simple and beautiful, vintage scarf hair wrap.

Jean-Paul Gaultier Spring 2012.

Model, Spring 2012 runway look, futuristic.

The original rolled siren, Ms. Rita Hayworth.

Here's a transition for y'all:

Model, runway, Spring '12 rocking bright pink textured rolls.

That was the perfect segue.  BRIGHT PINK HAIR!  Its not as scary as it seems (or at least it doesn't have to be), trust me.  Rose hues are everywhere right now.  Between Katy Perry's first blushing bob, to an all out glowing gradient of fuchsia, pink is where its at.

Katy Perry's mild ombre of pale pink.

Baby pink ombre's from behindthechair.com 2012.

Model Charlotte Free's flaming gradience, Spring runway 2012.

Pink not your color?  Its all about placement and FUN!  Try orange, turquoise, or lavender peekaboo foils or ombre tips.

Model, runway Spring 2012.

Lauren Conrads subtle streaks.

Style goddess, Kate Bosworth (totally in love with her).

Now beautiful darlings, I know these are slightly intimidating trends that we're dipping our toes into.  Just remember you don't have to go overboard to achieve these striking looks!  Try incorporating a liberty roll fringe, or big soft retro waves pinned back on one side.  A pop of bright pink from under a classic long layered haircut can be a welcome surprise to passersby;  eye catching without being outrageous.

So get those wild wheels turning, beautiful.
Stay warm,
stay dry,
stay gorgeous.

See you all soon,
Team Ferricchia

hump day: for your health!

Phyto darlings, faithful ferricchia-ites, its Wednesday yet again.  Hopefully you all are having a wonderful week thus far.  Vacations are ending, things are winding down, and we're getting settled into the dreaded doldrums of winter.  It's cold, it's dry, and so is our hair.  Now is the perfect time to take care of yourself.  We always see our friends claiming resolutions for the new year, and with the promises to exercise and eat healthy, why not incorporate your hair into a healthy 2012?

Each month here at ferricchia we like to shine the spotlight on one of our favorite products.  January's product of the month is Phytokeratine.

Phytokeratine is a reparative program for weakened and damaged hair from heat styling or chemical processing (guilty as charged!).  Comprised of the phytokeratine shampoo, conditioner, and reparative serum, the system restructures your hair from the inside out with:

Botanical keratin:  created to act in replacement of hairs natural keratin proteins lost in over processing.

Hyaluronic acid:  injects and retains moisture deep within the hair shaft.

Rice bran ceramics:  smooths and fills "pot holes" in the hair.

Pomegranate:  forms a protective shield for your hair, combatting the harmful effects of free-radicals and uv damage.

Phytokeratine: for your health!

Tune in next Wednesday for the fringe hump day!

Hang in there, Northeastern beauties,
we'll get through this winter together.
Just you, me, and phyto.

Yours truly,
Meghan
